Silesian University of Technology visits India
On the 17th -21st February 2025 representatives of the Silesian University of Technology held a number of study visits to India, opening new cooperation opportunities and tightening existing ones. Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation Prof. Dr. Hab.Eng. Sebastian Werle and the Head of the International Relations Office, Dr Eng. Grzegorz Kłapyta visited Sona College of Technology in Salem, Adamas University and JIS University (Group) in Calcutta, as well as Marwadi University in Rajkot.
The first university they visited in India was Sona College of Technology in Salem. The visit of representatives of the Silesian University of Technology created an opportunity to sign a cooperation agreement during a solemn ceremony prepared by an Indian university according to the local tradition. It was also an opportunity to meet with representatives of the university authorities, including a descendant of the founder, Thyagu Valiapp, as well as with deans and managers of individual units.
Our representatives also visited the SONA Research Centre, where they met with scientists and had the opportunity to discuss current issues. In addition, the Indian university presented its impressive campus, as well as Mycelium Sona Biotech Lab, Sona Medical College of Naturopathy and Yoga, AYUSH Clinic and Institute. A part of the program was also a visit to Sona Group – Vee Technology MedTek in Salem. The two-day visit ended with a meeting with students and lecturers, a session of exchange of experience and knowledge, as well as a joint summary with the university authorities.

The delegation of the Silesian University of Technology also went to Kolkata to visit Adamas University and JIS University (Group) to learn about the didactic and research potential of both universities and to conclude a cooperation agreement. Adamas University held a meeting with a wide group of university representatives at a round table, led by the Vice-Rector Prof. Tamal Goswami, a specialist in computer science. After the solemn ceremony of signing the cooperation agreement, another meeting with the participation of the Rector Prof. Samit Ray, Vice-Rector Prof. Suranjan Das and representatives of the International Relations Office took place.
From Adamas University, representatives of our University went to JIS University (Group), where there was also a ceremony of signing the cooperation agreement, a meeting with representatives of the authorities and the academic community of the university, as well as a presentation of the campus.
Silesian University of Technology has concluded a cooperation agreement with JIS Group, which consists of the following entities: JIS University, JIS College of Engineering, Narula Institute of Technology, Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology & Sports Complex and Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management.
The visit to Kolkata ended with a meeting with Joydeep Roy, a representative of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in India, where further development of cooperation with Indian universities was discussed.

The final stage of the visit to India was a study visit to Marwadi University in Rajkot. Marwadi University is a partner university of the Silesian University of Technology, with which we already actively cooperate. Our representatives held a number of meetings with the university authorities and the Deputy Director for International Cooperation, Dr Nileshe Advani. In addition, they were also invited to take part in the award ceremony in the university-wide sports event, organized on that day for students, where another opportunity to present the Silesian University of Technology in a broad forum was made possible.
At all universities, a very rich and intensive schedule of visits has been prepared for our representatives, giving the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the research and teaching potential of our partner universities and the opportunity to exchange experiences and agree fields for cooperation.
At the moment, the following faculties have decided to cooperate with the above-mentioned Indian universities: Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Chemistry and Faculty of Biomedical Engineering.
The agreements open the way for broad cooperation and are also an invitation to other departments.
