Transport Technologies

Scope and Definition Transport technologies define the operational methods, scope, and procedures for executing the necessary activities to facilitate cargo transport. Furthermore, they address the qualitative aspects of the planning process, including freight forwarding and the execution of transport services using appropriate machinery and tools.

The selection of appropriate means of transport and the adaptation of adequate transport technologies to the planned process are inherently linked to optimizing delivery times and minimizing transport costs.

In the entire supply chain management process, the selection of appropriate transport technologies plays a pivotal role. It influences individual stages of the transport process, ensuring the efficient and smooth movement of cargo from the initial stage to the final delivery of raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished goods to the end recipient.

Market Context The growing importance of selecting the right transport technologies is a direct result of increased trade volume and the globalization of the world economy. Transport technologies have a decisive impact on:

  • The execution of transport services.

  • Reorganization and modernization aimed at reducing strategic and operational costs.

  • Lowering the overall costs of transport and forwarding activities.

  • Optimally shaping the supply chain from raw material acquisition, through processing and sales, to after-sales service.

Program Overview To address these needs, the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering has launched the Transport Technologies specialization. The main goal of educating engineering staff in this field is to impart current theoretical and practical knowledge regarding contemporary transport technologies used across all modes of transport.

Skills and Competencies Graduates of this specialization learn technological processes related to the use of modern transport technologies. Key competencies acquired include:

  • Conceptual Design: The ability to create conceptual designs for the functioning and equipping of an enterprise with appropriate transport technologies.

  • Practical Application: Students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills through classes where specific projects are realized and real-world problems are solved.

  • Process Optimization: Within design classes, graduates acquire the practical foundations to manage supply chains and are able to optimize a planned transport process, considering the selection of appropriate technologies (using specific enterprises as case studies).

  • Management & Control: Graduates acquire knowledge enabling the design of supply chains, as well as the planning, supervision, and control of transport processes in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and large industrial plants.

Graduate Profile The curriculum for the Transport Technologies (2nd Degree / Master’s Level) specialization comprehensively prepares graduates for work in logistics, transport, and production enterprises.

Graduates obtain practical preparation for engineering and research work in:

  • Service and production enterprises,

  • Logistics centers,

  • Container terminals,

  • Warehouses.

Career Opportunities Graduates find employment in roles such as:

  • Planners and Dispatchers,

  • Transport Analysts,

  • Senior Managers in logistics, shipping, and forwarding companies.

  • Various positions within plants located in the Silesian Voivodeship.

Work in professions related to transport operations and logistics offers constant challenges and continuous opportunities for competence enhancement.
