Silesian University of Technology and TU Bergakademie Freiberg Expand Cooperation under a Double Degree Diploma Programme
The Silesian University of Technology and TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) in Germany have signed an agreement on the implementation of a joint Double Degree Diploma programme. The agreement covers the Cognitive Technologies programme offered by the Faculty of Organization and Management at the Silesian University of Technology and the MBA International Business and Resources in Emerging Markets (IBRE) programme delivered by the Faculty of Business and Economics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
The agreement was signed by the Rectors of both universities: on behalf of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, and on behalf of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes. The agreement was also signed by the Deans of the cooperating faculties, Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior and Prof. Dr. Michael Höck.
Both universities are members of the EURECA-PRO European University Alliance, and the Double Degree programme has been formally recognised as a programme implemented within the framework of the Alliance. The signing of the agreement marks another important step in the internationalisation of education at the Silesian University of Technology and provides students with an opportunity to gain academic, professional and intercultural experience in both Poland and Germany.
Thanks to this cooperation, students will be able to pursue their education in two different academic environments and, upon successful completion of the programme, receive two Master’s degrees – one from each university.
The programme comprises four semesters of study and 120 ECTS credits, with 60 ECTS credits completed at the Silesian University of Technology and the remaining 60 ECTS credits at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The programme will be taught in English. Students will be able to begin their studies at one of the partner universities and then continue at the other institution, in accordance with an individual study plan and the principles of mutual recognition of learning outcomes. An important element of the programme will also be the joint supervision of the Master’s thesis.
The cooperation combines the complementary expertise of both universities. At the Silesian University of Technology, students develop knowledge and skills in areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive analytics, human–computer interaction, management and cognitive science, while at TU Bergakademie Freiberg the programme focuses, among other areas, on international business, resource economics, econometrics, decision support systems and innovation management.
