In June, at the invitation of the “Cognitus” Student Research Club of Cognitive Technologies, a lecture devoted to brain–computer interfaces (BCI) was held. The speaker was Dr Eng. Andrzej Michnik from the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Krakow Institute of Technology.

In his presentation, Dr Eng. Andrzej Michnik discussed the current state of research on technologies enabling a direct connection between the brain and a computer. He described, among other things, experiments conducted with people with quadriplegia who, thanks to electrodes implanted in the motor cortex, are able to control a cursor on a computer screen, open e-mail, or operate household devices such as a TV remote control “by the power of thought.” The speaker also presented the latest achievements and research directions being developed by leading research centres and technology corporations around the world.

The lecture concluded with a lively discussion involving Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management, Professor Aleksandra Kuzior, Dr Bartłomiej Knosala, Dr Paweł Wawrzała, and students of the following programmes: Cognitive Technologies, Technologie Kognitywne i Media Społecznościowe (Cognitive Technologies and Social Media), and Business Analytics.

The “Cognitus” Student Research Club of Cognitive Technologies invites the entire community of the Faculty of Organization and Management to take part in future initiatives of this kind.
