Money has GPS – Summary of Prof. Rafał Żelazny’s Lecture
On March 19, our Faculty had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Rafał Żelazny, President of the Katowice Special Economic Zone S.A., who visited us at the invitation of the Dean, Professor Aleksandra Kuzior. His lecture was part of the series “Faces of Business, Science and Politics. Management in Theory and Practice.” Prof. Żelazny delivered a talk titled “Money Has GPS: Why Do Investments Choose One Place and Bypass Another? Investor Logic in 45 Minutes.” During the lecture, the Professor discussed, among other topics, the factors that encourage companies to invest in specific locations—such as stability, good infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and a supportive institutional environment. He also emphasized the importance of effective management of investment areas and cooperation among key stakeholders. The main conclusion was that investors make decisions quickly and based on data. Therefore, regions must consciously build their attractiveness, develop competencies, and support innovation in order to attract new ventures. The C3 lecture hall was filled to capacity. Among the participants—besides students, staff of the Faculty and the Silesian University of Technology, and members of the Faculty’s Social Council—there were also students from the 5th-grade economics technician class of the Zabrze School of Economics and Services.
