The 14th edition of the project "Scientific Debut 2024 - Sustainable Development and the European Green Deal" was organized by the offices of Prof. Jerzy Buzek, PhD, DSc, Eng., the Department of Applied Social Sciences at the Faculty of Organization and Management at Silesian University of Technology, the Institute of Social Studies at the Academy of Applied Sciences in Racibórz, and the Silesian Center for Business Ethics and Sustainable Development.

The plenary session was led and moderated by Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior, Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management at Silesian University of Technology. Participants in the plenary session included Agnieszka Rupniewska (Mayor of the City of Zabrze), Dr. Paweł Strózik (Rector of the Academy of Applied Sciences in Racibórz), Dr. Borys Budka (Member of the European Parliament), Prof. Jerzy Buzek (former Prime Minister, former President of the European Parliament, and current Member of the European Parliament), and Prof. Jadwiga Stolarczyk-Pissaloux (expert at the European Commission and professor at the University of Rouen Normandy, France). In his speech, Prof. Jerzy Buzek explained the correlation between sustainable development and the European Green Deal, emphasizing that “the Green Deal is a grand plan for a lasting, systemic shift in thinking about the planet and the ways we utilize its resources.”

The panel sessions were moderated by guests and faculty from the Faculty of Organization and Management: Prof. Jadwiga Stolarczyk-Pissaloux, Dr. Katarzyna Postrzednik-Lotko, Dr. Anna Kochmańska, Dr. Bartłomiej Knosala, Dr. Dariusz Krawczyk, Dr. Henryk A. Kretek, Dr. Michał Staniszewski, and doctoral student Joanna Kruszewska (a participant in the previous edition of this project).

This year's competition awarded the following prizes and distinctions:

• First Prize – a diploma and an invitation to visit the European Parliament in Brussels, sponsored by Dr. Borys Budka, awarded to Sabina Maria Perykasza from Jagiellonian University for her paper titled Synergy of the European Green Deal and European Space Programs in Achieving the EU's Climate Goals.
• Distinctions were awarded to:
  • Eng. Julia Chmiel from Silesian University of Technology for her paper titled Titanium Ascorbate as a Plant Biostimulator Meeting the Goals of the European Green Deal,
  • Karolina Sammel from West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin for her paper titled Environmental Impact Analysis of Hub-and-Spoke Airports as a Solution Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals, Using the Example of the Central Communication Port.

The organizers congratulate the awardees and all participants who submitted their work for the competition. They also extend their thanks to the students of the Cognitive Technologies and Social Media program for their involvement in the event's preparations.
