On June 14, students of "Cognitive Technologies and Social Media" participated in practical classes conducted at the ONET.PL headquarters in Warsaw. ONET.PL is the largest polish web portal and online news platform owned by Ringier Axel Springer Media AG. Students had a unique opportunity to confront the acquired theoretical knowledge with day-to-day business operations of the company. They had a chance to see how an editorial office works. They had the opportunity to discuss technical issues related to multimedia creation with an image and sound engineer. During a visit in the recording studio, they learned how to prepare and conduct on-air interviews, communicate with a journalist conducting live interviews, coordinate the activities of a team of reporters and editors during important and popular events, such as elections or sports championships. Students could also act as operators of a mobile film studio in a car, that is used for conversations in “Onet rano” program. There were also exercises in the field of editing and adjusting press materials for publication in electronic media. The students met with IT specialists, graphic designers, social media specialists. It was a time for conversations and questions regarding, for example, effective response to hate posts, procedures for starting paid cooperation with media companies, and competences required for a given position. According to the rankings, ONET.PL is not only the most popular, but also one of the leading Polish opinion-forming media, next to TVN24 and "Rzeczpospolita". In the years 2014-2023, the portal was cited 236.6 thousand times. Over 8 million real users visit their home page every month, and over 10 million use information resources). At the same time, according to the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, which published the Digital News Report2023, ONET.PL enjoys the highest trust of the media audience in Poland.
