Dr Bronisław Szlęk has passed away
From the beginning of his academic and teaching career, he was associated with the mathematics departments and the Institute of Mathematics at the Silesian University of Technology. He graduated from the Jagiellonian University in 1955 and obtained his doctorate from the University of Silesia in 1969. Dr Szlęk's publications include 20 works. Dr Szlęk was a very active and highly respected employee, as evidenced by the following facts. In 1978-1982 and 1991-2005, he was the deputy director for teaching at the Institute of Mathematics, and for many years he was the head of teaching teams in mathematics at the Faculties of Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Energy Engineering, Mechanical and Technological Engineering, and Mathematics and Physics. He was a member of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology, the Council of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, as well as the University Admissions Committee.
For his merits and achievements, he was awarded, among others, the Gold Cross of Merit, the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the KEN Medal and several awards from the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology. He was a long-standing member of the Polish Mathematical Society (1957-2008) and secretary of the Gliwice Branch of the Polish Mathematical Society (1980-2008).
A righteous man with a big heart has left us.

A funeral mass will be held on 10 January at 12:00 noon at the Church of St. Albert the Great (St. Michael the Archangel) in Gliwice, followed by a final farewell at the Central Cemetery immediately after the mass.
