Angelika Banaś - laureate in the Gold Medal of Chemistry competition
We are pleased to announce that Angelika Banaś received a distinction and a special distinction from DuPont company in the Gold Medal of Chemistry competition for her work "Methods of obtaining and characterization of graphene materials used in the design of electrochemical biosensors". The work examined the properties of modified graphene (reduced graphene oxide) with a view to its use in electrochemical biosensors, i.e. devices enabling early and rapid detection of diseases. It was possible to demonstrate that the method of obtaining graphene materials significantly affects their properties and, consequently, their application values. The most optimal method for obtaining reduced graphene for potential use in electrochemical biosensors was selected.
Angelika's BSc. thesis was based on her participation in the NCN Polonez Bis research grant "Dendritic Gold Nanostructures Decorated Graphene as an Electrochemical Biosensor towards Cancer Biomarker CA 125 for the Early Diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer", under the supervision of dr Jincymol Kappen.
The Gold Medal of Chemistry competition aims to select the authors of the best bachelor's or engineering theses in chemistry and its borderlands. The organizer of the competition is the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw and DuPont company. The honorary patronage of the event was held by: the Polish Chemical Society, the Committee of Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the president of the Foundation for Polish Science, Ph.D. Maciej Żylicz.
