Research profile
One of the greatest challenges of the modern world is to protect the environment from various types of pollution. Such activities include the effective treatment of wastewater from nitrogen and phosphorus compounds. Among the future methods of nitrogen removal from wastewater is the anammox process, which involves the conversion of ammonium nitrogen to atmospheric nitrogen using nitrate (III) as an electron acceptor. This process is more economically beneficial and environmentally friendly than conventional methods used in wastewater treatment plants (nitrification, denitrification). Due to some disadvantages of the anammox process (slow growth rate and doubling time), this process must be protected from harmful agents, which increasingly, due to increasing consumption, include antibiotics. These micropollutants, in appropriate concentrations, can cause inhibition of the anammox process, the elucidation of which will be the subject of my dissertation.
