Right after the excursion of SKNTC
A group of 24 students of Power Engineering and Computer Modeling visited two power facilities in the south of the province: the Żar pumped storage power plant and the Bielsko-Biała combined heat and power plant. At the Żar power plant, the students learned about the role that pumped storage power plants play in the power system and had the opportunity to see up close, among other things, the rotating shaft of a 136 MW turbine generator. In turn, at the Bielsko-Biala combined heat and power plant, an employee showed the group around all the technological processes taking place at the facility - from the system for unloading coal and supplying it to the boiler, through the water treatment station, the fluidized bed boiler (one could look through a peephole inside the furnace chamber), the steam turbine, the generator, the electrical power output, the heat accumulator, to the flue gas treatment systems and the CHP traffic control center.
In the evening, at the Silesian University of Technology resort "Cis" in Szczyrk, members of the Circle listened to a lecture by Tomasz Simla entitled "Who is an engineer? Why do we learn physics?". The trip also hosted two doctoral students from abroad, who came to Gliwice for one semester as part of an academic exchange. Our guests introduced the members of the circle to the profile of their scientific research.
The next major event planned by the Circle is a student scientific symposium to be held in the spring of 2023. We will announce the details later, but right now we encourage you to seek scientific supervisors and topics for papers to be presented at the Symposium.
