M.ERA-NET Project for our Faculty
The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering got an international project as part of the M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2022 competition for PLN 2,789,075.21. The supervisor of the Project is Marcin Basiaga, Ph.D., D.Sc.
This project, called "Advanced metamaterials dedicated for cardiovascular surgeries to minimize tissue injury", is carried out with the participation of nine consortium members, including four foreign (three from Austria and one from Turkey).
Apart from the Silesian University of Technology, which is the leader, the consortium includes the following units: Chirstom Marcin and Marek Dyner s.c., Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Jan Długosz University of Humanities and Natural Sciences in Częstochowa, Prof. Zbigniew Religa Foundation for the Development of Cardiac Surgery, Polymer Competence Center Leoben, JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, DISTECH Disruptive Technologies GmbH, and Kocaeli University.
The project's primary goal is to create a new-generation surgical tool with overload protection and strain detection to control the pressure on the tissue as a basis for its atraumatic gripping. The project involves using modern biocompatible, atraumatic metamaterials, coatings, and sensors on the working surfaces of tools, ensuring safe tissue gripping - said Marcin Basiaga, Ph.D., D.Sc.
