Born in 1963 in Czeladź. He graduated from the Technical College of Mechanics in Bytom, where he obtained the title of technician specialising in precision mechanics and automation. In 1988, he graduated from the Faculty of Mining at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, obtaining a master’s degree in mining mechanics, specialising in mining and drilling machinery and equipment. From 1988 to 1990, he worked at the ‘Jowisz’ coal mine in Wojkowice in the Energy Machinery Department as a shift foreman. Since 1990, he has been working at the Silesian University of Technology.

The degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in the discipline of Mining and Engineering Geology, specializing in mining machinery, was conferred upon him in 1998 by the Faculty of Mining and Geology of the Silesian University of Technology. In 2010, following the decision of the Faculty Council of Mining and Geology, he obtained the academic degree of Habilitated Doctor of Technical Sciences in the same field.

He is the head of the Department of Mining Mechanisation and Robotisation at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation.

He is a specialist in the field of engineering machinery construction, in particular mining machinery, design, operation, diagnostics, machine design support, tribology and machine dynamics. In particular, he deals with issues related to the construction and operation of drive systems.

In 2016-2024, he served as Vice-Dean for Cooperation with the Social and Economic Environment and Vice-Dean for Organisation and Infrastructure. He was a member of the Mechatronics Section of the Mining Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Katowice Branch, and the Faculty Social Council. In 2015-2017, he was the Chairman of the National Council of the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians.

Member of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology for the 2024-2028 term.

He is the author and co-author of over 200 scientific publications: in journals, at conferences, monographs and chapters in monographs and handbooks. Reviewer of numerous scientific articles. Reviewer and member of habilitation and doctoral committees. Manager and executor of numerous scientific and research works, services and research projects. Organiser of many international and national conferences. Creator and co-creator of over 15 patents with implementations. He is the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal MINING – Informatics, Automation and Electrical Engineering. He has been awarded the Gold Cross of Merit and the National Education Medal. He has received  several awards from the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology. He is a 1st degree General Mining Director.

In cooperation with industry, his work focuses mainly on innovative machine drive systems—especially flexible couplings—as well as the dynamic load analysis of gear transmissions and their implementation.
