Success of Faculty Students at the International SSPA 2026 Conference

On 7–8 May 2026, the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology organized the international student conference Student Scientific & Professional Activities – SSPA 2026. The event brought together students from the Silesian University of Technology, the AGH University of Krakow, the Technical University of Ostrava – VSB, and the Technical University of Košice.

The SSPA conference, organized continuously since 2019, has become one of the most important initiatives supporting cooperation between the participating universities. In its first editions, the competition was carried out under the European operational programme Research, Development and Education. Following the completion of the programme, the initiative has continued as a joint undertaking of partner universities, highlighting the durability and value of this international cooperation.

The SSPA 2026 conference included three main thematic sessions:

  • Earth Sciences — focusing on geology, geodesy, cartography, geological engineering, and geotourism,
  • Process Control and Logistics — dedicated to automation, digitalization, and management of processes related to raw material extraction and processing, as well as industrial and commercial logistics,
  • Mineral Resources, Ecology and Environment — covering environmental protection, raw material technologies, geotechnics, rescue engineering, mining and tunnelling technologies, and the use of alternative energy sources.

The Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation was represented by students: Radosław Brzozowski, Michał Feodorów, Wiktor Korpak, Dawid Małachowski, Martyna Skulska, and Oskar Snarski. Their scientific supervisors were: Prof. Anna Manowska, PhD, DSc; Monika Żogała, PhD Eng.; and Konrad Kołodziej, MSc Eng. The presented works were evaluated by a competition committee.

We are proud to announce that representatives of our Faculty received awards in all thematic sessions:

  • Dawid Małachowski, who presented the paper “Biometric authentication system in process control security”, won second place in the Process Control and Logistics session,
  • The team consisting of Wiktor Korpak and Oskar Snarski, presenting the paper “Experimental comparative analysis of thermal energy storage beds using sigmoid function approximation”, won second place in the Mineral Resources, Ecology and Environment session,
  • Third place in the Earth Sciences session was awarded to Martyna Skulska and Michał Feodorów for their paper “Forging digital memory: preserving industrial heritage through advanced surveying technologies”.
