During the event, they presented the results of two PBL projects completed in the winter semester of the 2025/2026 academic year as part of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” program. The following presentations were delivered:
- “Geospatial data analysis in diagnostic applications for disaster land management”.
- “Examples of how freely available Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be used in the analysis of natural disasters – the flood in southwestern Poland (2024) and the landslide in Batang Kali, Malaysia (2022)”.
The PBL projects were carried out by international teams of students and academic supervisors.
The project conducted in cooperation with Universiti Utara Malaysia involved: Natalia Zaręba (Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation, Department of Geoengineering and Raw Materials Extraction – RG4), Mateusz Banasiak and Jakub Stanoszek (Institute of Physics), as well as Putri Z. B. Putri, Mohd R. A. Karim, and Zairil A. Zulmuji (School of Computing, Northern University Malaysia – UUM MY). The project supervisors were: Dr. Eng. Krzysztof M. The online presentations were delivered on behalf of the teams by Natalia Zaręba and Oliwia Szweda.
The conference gathered more than 30 young researchers from 10 countries, who presented topics related to broadly understood Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) during four thematic sessions.
The students of the Silesian University of Technology presented the results of their projects very successfully among speakers, most of whom were young researchers holding doctoral degrees.
