Conference: "Work Safety in the World of Modern Technologies"

On March 18, 2026, the Education and Congress Center of the Silesian University of Technology hosted the conference "Work Safety in the World of Modern Technologies." The event was co-organized by the District Labour Inspectorate in Katowice and the Silesian University of Technology, with significant involvement from the Department of Safety Engineering, which operates within our Faculty.

The meeting brought together representatives of the National Labour Inspectorate, the academic community, and occupational health and safety (OHS) practitioners. The conference was part of the nationwide series "Vision ZERO – From Awareness to Action," aimed at strengthening safety culture and reducing the number of workplace accidents.

W programie wydarzenia aktywnie uczestniczyły przedstawicielki Wydziału Górnictwa inżynierii Bezpieczeństwa i Automatyki Przemysłowej:

  • dr inż. Ewelina Włodarczyk, from the Department of Safety Engineering, presented a paper on modern methods for training OHS specialists. She emphasized the importance of developing "competencies of the future" and utilizing immersive technologies in the educational process.
  • dr hab. inż. Małgorzata Wyganowska, prof. PŚ, Head of the Department of Safety Engineering, participated in an expert panel where she addressed challenges resulting from dynamic technological transformation and its impact on work safety.

The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, expressed his appreciation for the Department of Safety Engineering's commitment to advancing research and education in the field of work safety. For nearly 20 years, the Department has been educating specialists in Occupational Health and Safety, as well as Public Safety and Crisis Management, within the Safety Engineering program. It plays a vital role in preparing highly qualified personnel for both industry and administration. The Rector extended special thanks to Prof. Małgorzata Wyganowska, recognizing her contribution to the organization of the conference and her consistent efforts in building a culture of safety.

In the exhibition area, the Department of Safety Engineering presented a VR station, where participants could test virtual reality goggles used in training OHS specialists. The presentation garnered significant interest, demonstrating the potential of immersive technologies in developing safety-related competencies.

The conference served as an essential platform for exchanging experiences and showcasing the latest technologies supporting work safety. Participants agreed that in the face of rapid technological progress, the responsible implementation of innovation and the continuous development of employee skills remain key.
