Student naszego Wydziału w centrum ogólnopolskich manewrów ratowniczych

Przemysław Wilk, president of the Student Research Club “Safe Wall,” was one of the participants in the National PCK Silesia 2026 Rescue Maneuvers, which took place on March 14 in the Queen Louise Adit in Zabrze. As a representative of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation at the Silesian University of Technology, the student became part of one of the largest training events in the country. The maneuvers brought together over 250 rescuers, volunteers from PCK Rescue Groups, and safety experts, creating a unique opportunity to exchange experiences at the intersection of science and practical crisis-response activities.

The maneuvers included a variety of scenarios for responding to crisis events—from operations in urban spaces to actions carried out in particularly difficult and demanding environments. Some of the exercises took place underground, in conditions similar to those rescuers may encounter during real incidents. The underground workings of the Queen Louise Adit complex provide an exceptional training environment—tight spaces, limited visibility, and challenging terrain make it one of the most demanding “training grounds” for rescue services. If a team can operate effectively in such conditions, it is even more capable of handling many other crisis situations. During one of the simulations, the Silesian University of Technology student took on the role of a casualty, acting as an injured person in a realistic scenario of a technical accident in an underground excavation.

Participation in the maneuvers allowed the student to view rescue procedures from a completely different perspective—not only as an observer, but also as someone at the very center of rescue operations. “New experiences, new acquaintances, and knowledge gained directly from practitioners. I experienced firsthand what it really looks like. If I have the opportunity in the future, I will gladly represent the Faculty and the University again,” reports Przemysław Wilk shortly after the maneuvers concluded. Such experiences show that safety engineering is not only theoretical knowledge, but above all the ability to act in real and often very demanding conditions.

The student’s participation in the maneuvers is an example of the activity of young engineers who develop their competencies also outside the university walls. Cooperation between the academic community and organizations such as the Polish Red Cross allows students to gain experience essential for addressing contemporary challenges in the field of safety—both local and global.
