The seminar will offer an interdisciplinary analysis of selected aspects related to the occurrence of natural disasters and their impact on the natural environment, society and economy. Mechanisms of phenomena such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes, typhoons, extreme rainfall, droughts, fires and volcanic eruptions will be discussed. Special attention will be paid to the impact of these disasters in Southeast Asian countries, a region with high exposure and vulnerability to natural hazards.

The seminar will present figures, statistical analyses, as well as maps and charts illustrating the scale and scope of the phenomena under discussion; selected data from institutions such as the UNDRR, IPCC, FAO, WHO and the World Bank will be presented.

Preventive and adaptive measures and international strategies, such as the Sendai Framework (Agenda 2030), will also be indicated.

Conclusions and recommendations for environmental policy and sustainable development will be proposed.
