Abstract: In this article the main issues related to the assessment of operational hazards associated with capacitor banks in power systems are presen
ted. The methodology for quantitative evaluation of hazard levels occurring during rapid capacitor discharge is characterized for events such as electric
shock, arc flash burns, and the impact of a shock wave. Selected models and calculation examples, a risk assessment algorithm, and methods for selecting
appropriate personal protective equipment are also presented.
