On January 7, 2026, the official presentation of professorial appointments took place. We are proud to announce that Prof. PhD DSc Eng. Agata Jakóbik-Kolon received her professorial appointment from the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.

Prof. PhD DSc Eng.Agata Jakóbik-Kolon, is a specialist in chemical engineering and Chair of the Chemical Engineering Discipline Council at the Silesian University of Technology. Her research interests focus on the separation of twin pairs of elements, elemental analysis in complex matrices, the development of hybrid biosorbents for heavy metal removal, and industrial wastewater treatment technologies with simultaneous management of recovered substances.

She led and supervised research projects commissioned by entities such as PGE GiEK S.A., Energopomiar, Multivalve, and Polymemtech, with a total value of nearly PLN 2.1 million. From 2019 to 2024, she directed, among others, the following projects: Three pilot-scale research projects on industrial wastewater treatment.
She has participated in 20 national and international research projects (including LIDER, Iuventus Plus, OPUS, GEKON, Horizon 2020, TANGO, Pol-Nor, and PBS), mostly focused on water and industrial wastewater treatment.
She is the co-author of 70 scientific publications indexed in the JCR database, as well as 17 patents and 4 know-how, of which two solutions related to industrial wastewater treatment have been commercialized.
She is the co-author of the invention "The process of boron removal from wastewater in a wet flue gas desulfurization (IMOS) installation with simultaneous recovery of a valuable product – boric acid," developed jointly with Energopomiar and PGE (patent: PL242750), which received the 2021 Silver Laurel of Innovation in the Stanisław Staszic competition organized by the Federation of Scientific and Technical Associations (NOT). Supervisor of three doctoral dissertations and reviewer of five doctoral theses.
