Our Department Delegates during the SMPTChem 2023 Winter Meeting
Once again, young chemistry adepts associated in the Young Section of the Polish Chemical Society (SMPTChem) held their annual Winter Congress. This time, chemists met within the walls of the University of Łódź.
Our Department delegated quite a large representation this year:
- Ph.D. Students: mgr inż. Joanna Wilk, mgr inż. Magdalena Marny
- Our Diploma Students: Agnieszka Kicińska (Chemical Technology), Julia Grzonka (Chemistry)
The formula of the winter meeting includes a poster session for its participants. These are the research topics whose results were presented by our delegates:
- mgr inż. Marianna Kostina-Bednarz: "Allelopathy as a source of bioherbicides: challenges and prospects for sustainable agriculture"
- mgr inż. Joanna Wilk: "LC-MS/MS in assessing the degree of degradation of pharmaceuticals in liquid model samples"
- mgr inż. Magdalena Marny: "Synthesis of TiO2-ZnO coatings by plasma electrolytic oxidation"
- Agnieszka Kicińska (opiekun: dr hab. inż. Sylwia Bajkacz, prof. PŚ): "Decomposition of micropollutants in processes initiated by sunlight – identification of degradation products"
It is worth noting that the mentioned diploma students were part of a larger delegation of the Students Research Association (more about their trip here). Two of them (Natalia Siodłak (Chemical Technology) and Julia Grzonka (Chemistry)), as part of the award for the best poster awarded during the SMPTChem Spring Meeting (more about it here), were invited to present the results of their work in the form of an oral presentation during the Winter Meeting. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, Natalia Siodłak was unable to give her presentation.
Julia Grzonka is about to finish her engineering project entitled: "Surface finishing of aluminum alloys using the soft sparking phenomenon during plasma electrolytic oxidation" under the supervision of Dr. Maciej Sowa. This was also the title of her speech during the Congress. The presentation met with great interest from the audience, so congratulations are in place!
The engineering project is as part of a larger project led by Dr. Sowa and financed by the National Center for Research and Development as part of the LIDER XI program (project no.: LIDER/30/0116/L-11/19/NCBR/2020; project value and funding amount 1.5 mln PLN).
We are happy for the successes of our students and their successful trip!
