Results of the 1st Photo Contest "Corrosion around us"
Now, that the World Corrosion Awareness Day is upon us, we can gladly announce that the results of the photo competition are in!
We have received 70 wonderful pictures of colorful corrosion! Apparently, the coming of spring played an important role in making the photos more vivid.
The Competition Jury had a hard time, but eventually, they were able to choose the best corrosion picture:
Author: Marek Bekier "Maro"; photo taken in Park Hestia in Sopot. It shows a corten steel sculpture by Matěj Frank
In addition, 10 entries were recognized (distinguished works) for their high quality and thought-provoking capacity, which will hopefully lead to a positive change in the way corrosion is perceived and tackled. Here they are (in random order):
Author: Wioletta Cebulska; Users and car enthusiasts struggle with the problem of corrosion. Often the result of corrosion is the recall of the vehicle
from use or very expensive repairs, especially in the case of vintage cars
Author: Sabina Brzozowska "Inka"; "Lonely Garden" - it shows a rusted fence that belonged to a deceased neighbor. Previously, he always lovingly took care of the garden, but afterhe passed away it remains in a neglected state
Author: Adrianna Wierzbicka; Image of the area of the old steelworks in Dolní Witkowice in Ostrava
Author: Aleksandra Bach; "Nature versus steel" - fragment of the bridge railing. The advanced corrosion process has caused significant damage, making the use of the railing unsafe without costly repairs
Author: Muhammad Zain Azeem (Pakistan); "Corrosion, let's go!" - uniform corrosion of the passenger car and rail tank car caused by damage to the coating
Author: Magdalena Sucharowska; Tram at the terminus in Ruda Śląska - Chebzie
Author: Małgorzata Szymaszek "Ambasador"; "Doors from another world" - in the abandoned Santa Laura saltpeter mining and processing plant in the Atacama Desert in Chile. It stopped working at the end of World War I
Author: Sandra Pichlak-Czop; "Rust in the landscape and detail - Metallurgical furnace in Ruda Śląska" - an object covered with multicolored rust observed in the form of various patterns and creating the character of the place
Author: Rafał Kryst; "Facing doom" - the photo was taken in Chernobyl in 2019, and in the background you can see the distinctive "Moscow Eye" radar
Author: Aleksandra Mikulíková; "Artistic corrosion" - a corroded metal sculpture by Čestmír Sušky harmonizes with the Miura Hotel in Čeladná, Czech Republic, visible in the background
We are thankful for all the pictures sent for the competition. The plan is to repeat this next year, so stay tuned for more examples of corrosion as they still may come handy in the future!
The best photo will be published in an issue of "Ochrona przed Korozją" ("Corrosion Protection") industrial magazine and receive prizes for the best photo award. Additionally, the winner will be awarded with a voucher for entry to Planetarium Śląskie.
All authors of the distinguished works will also be awarded with some smaller prizes.
Sincere congratulations to all the competition winners.
