Seminar: Marek Szczepański
On January 14, 2026, Marek Szczepański, BEng, PhD, DSc, gave a presentation at our department's seminar entitled “Traffic analysis using unmanned aerial systems”.
The presentation covered issues related to traffic analysis based on UAV video recordings, in particular methods for estimating vehicle speeds and key processing stages including detection, object tracking, and speed determination in relation to the scale/calibration method of the imaging system. The problem of determining a reliable reference (ground truth) in field conditions was also discussed, and sample results and practical conclusions were presented.
The second part of the presentation concerned sensory solutions that increase the safety of cyclists, including the concept of an intelligent sensor that records vehicle passing events and the planned use of vision data and machine learning methods to classify events based on distance signal waveforms.
The work presented during the seminar was (and is) carried out in cooperation with students of the Faculty of AEiI: Michał Ferenc, BEng, MSc, Maciej Lower, BEng, and Jakub Pająk, BEng.
