Seminar: Joanna Żyła
During the recent department seminar, we had the pleasure to listen the talk entitled “When AI Reads Genes: Large Language Models in Gene Set Analysis” given by Joanna Żyła, PhD.
The presentation focused on the growing role of Generative AI in modern bioinformatics, exploring how Large Language Models (LLMs) can be leveraged to analyze and interpret complex genomic data.
The talk covered the fundamental architecture of LLMs, practical approaches to prompt engineering, and the application of semantic similarities. Next, it reviewed recently published LLM-based methods, comparing their effectiveness and capabilities directly against classical Over-Representation Analysis (ORA).
It was a great opportunity to discuss how adapting natural language processing techniques can push the boundaries of functional genomics and offer new ways to uncover biological insights.
