Our team at XIX PTBI symposium

Members of our Department took part in the 19th Symposium of the Polish Bioinformatics Society, held in Poznań and bringing together researchers from the Polish bioinformatics and computational biology community.

Our Department was represented by Joanna Tobiasz, PhD, Aleksandra Suwalska, PhD, and Joanna Żyła, PhD. They were joined by Sara Pini, MSc, who is currently completing an internship in our Department, and our collaborator Karolina Widzisz, MSc.

Five contributions were presented during the conference:

  • Joanna Tobiasz, PhD, gave a talk entitled “RRBS-Based Epigenomic Profiling of Type 1 Diabetes: Preliminary Data Quality Assessment and Preprocessing”, prepared in collaboration with the group of Professor Taras Oleksyk;
  • Aleksandra Suwalska, PhD, presented “Gene-level rare variant scoring in muscular dystrophy: comparative evaluation of GORDIAN and GenRisk”, developed within the CoMPaSS-NMD project;
  • Sara Pini, MSc, presented the poster “From gene scoring to trio analysis: a new application framework for the GORDIAN score”;
  • Joanna Żyła, PhD, presented the poster “Beyond Binary ORA: Preliminary Results of Unsupervised Learning on LLM Embeddings for Omics Data”, focused on the use of large language models in omics data analysis;
  • Karolina Widzisz, MSc, presented the poster “Probing the Embedding Space: A Multi-Model Semantic Analysis of KEGG Pathways”.

Both contributions involving language-model-based analyses were prepared in collaboration with Klaudia Skutnik, a student currently completing an internship in our Department.

PTBI Conf ’26 provided an opportunity to present recent research, exchange ideas and meet researchers from across the Polish bioinformatics community.
