Meetings with the Nobel Laureate
On May 5-6, 2025, our University hosted last year's Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine - Prof. Victor R. Ambros, co-discoverer of miRNA. Prof. Ambros was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Silesian University of Technology. On this occasion, on May 5, Prof. Ambros honoured us with his presence at a seminar entitled ‘Silesian University of Technology for Medicine’, during which SUT scientists presented their works in molecular biology, biomedical engineering, and bioinformatics. Our Department was represented by Prof. Joanna Polańska, who spoke about research conducted at the SUT related to computational oncology and personalised medicine.
On the afternoon of May 5, Prof. Ambros also met with the academic community at the CKS Mrowisko, providing an opportunity to engage in discussion with the Nobel Laureate. Prof. Ambros answered many questions from staff and students. Justyna Mika, PhD and Joanna Tobiasz, PhD, also participated in this meeting.
