Fulbright program and the arrival of Professor Taras Oleksyk
Dr. Taras K. Oleksyk, an associate professor at Oakland University, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year. Thanks to this, he will conduct a research project in Poland in collaboration with the Maj Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Jagiellonian University, and the Silesian University of Technology.
Dr. Oleksyk's project aims to study genetic variability in Eastern Europe and develop an educational program in genomics and bioinformatics, which will also include Ukrainian students displaced by the Russian invasion.
Research on genetic variability can provide important insights, helping scientists identify and understand genetic variants associated with human health and describe historical factors influencing genetic diversity worldwide.
“Without Poland, my research in Europe will have a blank spot, so it is very important to spend time there and fill it in,” said Oleksyk. “I am looking for collaborators, students, and postdoctoral fellows who are interested in genome diversity in the region.”
