Consultation Visit of Aleksandra Suwalska to Shanghai within the MINIATURA 8 Grant Framework

Between May 6 and 20, 2025, Aleksandra Suwalska, PhD, a researcher at the Department of Engineering and Exploratory Data Analysis, carried out a consultation visit to Shanghai, made possible through funding from the National Science Centre (NCN) under the MINIATURA 8 programme. The purpose of the visit was to conduct research activities and consultations in collaboration with partners from Fudan University as part of the project titled “An intelligent system for automatic identification of cerebral lacunes in magnetic resonance imaging studies.”

During her stay, Dr Suwalska participated in a series of substantive meetings and scientific presentations hosted at the Fudan University Medical School and the prestigious Huashan Hospital, one of China's leading centres for neurology. At these events, she not only presented the objectives and current progress of the grant-funded project but also introduced a broad range of research initiatives conducted by the members of the Department.

Her presentations sparked considerable interest among students, doctoral candidates, and faculty members specializing in neurology, epidemiology, and medical data analysis. These meetings enabled the establishment of numerous scientific contacts and provided a platform for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and best practices in the application of advanced artificial intelligence methods in medical imaging diagnostics.

A particularly significant component of the visit involved hands-on consultation workshops focused on the interpretation and analysis of magnetic resonance imaging. These sessions were conducted in close cooperation with a team of physicians and experts in neuroradiology.

The visit represented an important step toward strengthening international research collaboration and building lasting academic relationships with one of Asia’s most prestigious medical institutions. The experiences and insights gained during the trip will be applied in the further development of the project, as well as in teaching and outreach activities carried out by the Department.

We warmly congratulate Aleksandra Suwalska on a successful and fruitful visit and look forward to the next stages of this promising collaboration.
