Teams at the Silesian University of Technology are strengthening their position in the field of modern construction, combining the concepts of sustainable development, advanced construction materials, and future technologies.
Sustainable Building Materials – Success in the NCN MINIATURA 9 Competition
A significant achievement is securing funding in the MINIATURA 9 competition of the National Science Centre for research on the use of locally available metallurgical and mining waste as alternative raw materials in the production of Portland cement clinker. This project aligns with global trends in reducing the carbon footprint and circular technologies, representing another step towards eco-friendly building materials technologies.

Structural Glass – Safety and Innovation
The Faculty of Civil Engineering conducts advanced research on structural glass, responding to the growing importance of this material in modern architecture. The research is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Hab. Eng. Marcin Kozłowski, professor at the Silesian University of Technology, and include:
- Research on the behavior of glass elements under mechanical and fire loads,
- Analysis of glass breakage and its behavior in a post-critical state,
- Development of innovative point-mounted laminated glass with increased load-bearing capacity.

Construction of the Future – Extraterrestrial Technologies
The Student Research Group "Extraterrestrial Construction," which received funding in a competition from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, presented an innovative approach to construction. The project, which involves developing a lunar regolith simulant, enables research on construction materials and technologies intended for use in extraterrestrial environments. These activities develop competencies in:
- materials engineering in extreme conditions,
- technologies for future lunar and Martian bases,
- innovative construction solutions that can also be applied in terrestrial construction.
