What is a science slam?
A science slam is a form of science communication that involves short presentations in which scientists present their research or ideas in an accessible, engaging, and creative way. A clear message, an attractive format, and rapport with the audience are key, as they typically determine the winner.
Why did we choose this format? We want to demonstrate that science is universal and can be discussed using a variety of messages, tools, and methods. We also want to bring science closer to all those who "speak Silesian" and who, although they don't speak Silesian, feel connected to the region and its culture. We are confident that this presentation of science will break through the hermetic, specialized approach to communication and will be an engaging and engaging attempt to connect with the audience.
Science Slam in Silesian takes the form of a competition – the audience decides which presentation is the best. Participants will also have the opportunity to seek advice from experts in linguistics, science popularization, and public speaking.
Who can participate?
Scientists, PhD students, and postgraduate students
from universities and scientific units in Poland who know the Silesian language and are able to talk about their research and scientific ideas using it.
