With the implementation of the HAN system, all members of the University Community, i.e. staff and students, have been given the opportunity to securely access electronic sources in and out of the Silesian University of Technology network. In order to use any database, with access limited to the university network, a link must be selected from the alphabetical list of e-resources. Each of these databases has an individual link, after clicking on which a login window appears.

When logging in, you must provide:

• login, i.e. user name in the domain polsl.pl or student.polsl.pl, e.g. jkowalski@polsl.pl, anowak@student.polsl.pl.
• and a password for your e-mail account.

In case of termination of the contract of employment with the Silesian University of Technology or graduation and signing the circulation card at the Silesian University of Technology Library, access is cancelled.

Some databases also allow remote access from outside the academic network using individual user accounts.

HAN is a reverse proxy server for managing access to electronic information sources. It requires no additional installation or configuration on the user’s computer and does not require the completion and submission of application forms. HAN is a secure solution that additionally provides a number of functionalities, including:

• user authentication via e.g. LDAP or a library account in the PROLIB system,
• restriction of authentication, e.g. to a specific group of users only,
• control of user permissions,
• control of licences imposed on electronic sources,
• keeping statistics on the use of electronic resources.
