Air Traffic Management
The Silesian University of Technology is expanding its educational offerings for the 2024/2025 academic year with the addition of another aviation specialization: Air Traffic Management in the Transport major. Students of this specialization, in addition to the existing curriculum, complete theoretical and practical training at the Academic Centre for Air Traffic Services Personnel Training at the Silesian University of Technology, certificate number PL/ATCO-TO/AOSSRL/1.
After obtaining trainee air traffic controller status, i.e., after passing a verification process to determine their suitability for the profession, students begin training consisting of theoretical and practical components on an air traffic control simulator at the Civil Aviation Personnel Training Centre of Central and Eastern Europe. Completion of this training and passing state exams before the Civil Aviation Authority committee grants them a trainee license from the Academic Centre for Air Traffic Services with the ratings for which they were trained. These ratings can include ADC (control tower) or APS (approach).
The training process will take place on the advanced EDDA Air Traffic Simulator – eCoach System. This simulator will allow students to practice in conditions that faithfully replicate the realities of air traffic controllers' work, guaranteeing the highest quality of preparation for future professional challenges. Training will be conducted for Airport Control (TWR) and Approach Control Supervision (APS) ratings. The instructors will be professionally active air traffic controllers.
The trainee license entitles students to continue their training at air traffic control units throughout Europe. However, in accordance with an agreement between PANSA and the Silesian University of Technology, our students will have the opportunity to undertake work (on-the-job training) in Poland under conditions established by PANSA. If students wish to pursue further training abroad, the ATC trainee license also provides this opportunity.
