The Six Universities' Project
Please review the outcomes of the collaboration between students from six universities—the Silesian University of Technology (SUT), Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU), the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), Nicolaus Copernicus University NCU), Łódź University (LU) and Sumy State University (SSU)—conducted within the framework of an interuniversity initiative formally titled The Six Universities' Project.
This project explored the concept of the cultural mirror in the context of video games through a comparative analysis of the behaviour of Polish and Ukrainian gamers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors (Anna Dvornyk (LPNU), Jakub Królikowski (WUT), Patrycja Osiecka (SUT)) examined how the most popular video games influenced the well-being and behaviour of both children and adults during the lockdown, the role they played in satisfying basic psychological needs, and whether immersion in the virtual world had a positive impact on education and the geopolitical contexts of the two countries.
The relationship between translation and culture as well as the role and growing importance of localization in the media, was the focus of this project. Beginning with the theoretical foundations of localization, the authors (Alicja Kozłowska (SUT),
Iryna Havryliv (LPNU), Kajetan Müller (WUT)) moved on to illustrate its practical applications in everyday life, film, informal language, video games, and other forms of media. Through these examples, they demonstrated how cultural adaptation enhances communication and contributes to the ongoing process of globalization.
This project explored the impact of digital technologies on the quality, speed, and ongoing transformation of communication in the third decade of the twenty-first century. The authors (Khrystyna Sydor (LPNU), Iryna Zhmur (LPNU), Angelika Waisman (SUT)) examined the consequences that the rapid global dissemination of information and the inevitable simplification of language have for the functioning of modern society, with particular emphasis on communication in the workplace.
This project examined the role and growing influence of social media in contemporary communication. The authors (Sofia Zhivkova (SSU), Radosław Fenger (SUT), Viktoriia Zadorozhna (LPNU), Anna Buts (LPNU)) discussed the increasing formation of online communities, often resulting from prolonged and, in some cases, exclusive reliance on social media as a means of interpersonal contact. They also explored the phenomenon of language mixing in online communication, where elements of the native language are used in place of foreign-language expressions. According to the authors, this practice can facilitate more precise communication, particularly in informal contexts, but it may also reflect an insufficient command of the foreign language.
This project addressed the phenomenon of overtourism and the challenges associated with it, focusing on its negative impact on residents' quality of life and the natural environment. Drawing on examples from some of the world's most popular tourist destinations, including Venice, Barcelona, and Kyoto, the authors (Lena Kulak (UL), Filip Wołowczyk (SUT), Viktoria Van (LPNU)) examined the specific consequences of mass tourism, local residents' responses to its effects, and the measures implemented to mitigate its impact.
This project examined the characteristics of Generations X, Y, Z, and Alpha, focusing on the behavioural patterns and lifestyles of people born in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In the second part of the project, the authors (Mateusz Owczarz (WUT), Daria Yaruta (SSU), Szymon Górny (SUT)) presented a comparative analysis of consumer behaviour across these generations, using tables and charts to illustrate differences in their needs, interests, and purchasing preferences.
