On 28 October 2025, the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology once again hosted the “Workshops Supporting Green and Digital Competences”. The event was held as part of the project “Developing NUB Sector Competences among High School Students from the Rybnik, Gliwice, Bytom, Katowice and Sosnowiec sub‑regions”, co‑financed by the European Funds for Silesia 2021–2027 programme. The project is led by Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior, Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management.

A total of 42 high school students from Rybnik, Wodzisław, Gliwice and Tarnowskie Góry took part. The workshops were conducted by faculty members: Dr. Katarzyna Postrzednik‑Lotko, Dr. Dorota Dolińska‑Weryńska, Dr. Eng. Kinga Stecuła, Dr. Barbara Rożałowska and Dr. Piotr Weryński.

The main goal was to support students in deeper understanding of green and digital transformation, and to develop key future competences such as critical thinking, teamwork, creativity in problem‑solving and the ability to use new technologies. The programme comprised interactive lectures, discussions, training games, simulation scenarios and practical exercises using modern cognitive technologies, VR goggles and educational kits for renewable energy production.

Participants explored real‑life examples of technologies improving energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources in various economic sectors. They conducted case studies, analysed the consequences of human activity on climate, discussed possible future energy scenarios in Poland and learned how to engage in substantive conversations with climate‑change sceptics, grounded in scientific knowledge. Throughout the sessions emphasis was placed on pro‑environmental attitudes, climate awareness and the role of technology in shaping a modern and responsible labour market.

By attending the workshops the students not only acquired new knowledge and practical experience, but also increased their readiness to actively participate in a transformation affecting all of us today. We warmly thank all participants for their engagement, curiosity and openness to new challenges.
