🌿 Symbols, Colours, and Traditions of Springtime in Poland 🎨🌸
On March 25, 2025, the Employee's Club hosted a unique integration meeting for foreign students, doctoral students and university employees. The event, organized by Welcome Point, was an excellent opportunity to learn about Polish traditions associated with the arrival of spring.
During the lecture, conducted by the Foreign Languages Centre of the Silesian University of Technology, participants had the opportunity to learn about the symbols of spring in Poland. The significance of nature awakening to life and folk customs associated with saying goodbye to winter and welcoming warmer days were discussed. There was also creative play, which turned out to be one of the most exciting points of the program.
The main attraction of the event was the creation of Marzanna - a straw puppet symbolizing winter. Participants enthusiastically prepared their Marzanas, colorfully decorating them. After the creative work was completed, came the climax of the event - the ritual farewell to winter. In the spirit of tradition, Marzanas were set on fire and then symbolically drowned to drive away the cold and welcome spring.
For many of the participants it was their first contact with this old Polish tradition, which aroused great interest and enthusiasm. The meeting became not only an opportunity to integrate, but also to better understand Polish culture and its folk customs. The foreigners were eager to share their impressions, emphasizing that the event was both educational and full of fun.
The meeting ended with collective conversations and celebrating the arrival of spring in a joyful atmosphere.
