Andrzejki in Polish Style: Foreigners Discover Polish Traditions at the "Let's Meet Poland!" Event

On November 26, 2024, as part of the "Let's Meet Poland!" series of meetings organized by Welcome Point in collaboration with the Foreign Languages Center of Silesian University of Technology, a unique event took place, introducing participants to the world of Polish Andrzejki traditions. The meeting attracted many foreigners, who enthusiastically explored Polish culture.

The main attraction of the evening was traditional Andrzejki fortune-telling activities, such as pouring wax, throwing apple peels, and the classic shoe race. Each of these activities provided an opportunity for laughter, integration, and discussions about the meaning of Polish customs. Participants learned what the wax figures symbolize, what names can be revealed by apple peels, and who might be the first to marry according to the results of the shoe race.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and engagement. Foreigners, representing various nationalities and cultures, eagerly participated in every fortune-telling activity, happily sharing their own experiences and traditions from their home countries. Many of them emphasized that experiencing Polish customs in such an interactive way was an incredibly valuable experience, helping them better understand and feel connected to the local community.

The organizers also ensured there were Polish snacks and a warm atmosphere, making the event not only educational but also thoroughly enjoyable. At the end of the gathering, participants expressed hope for more initiatives like this in the future, allowing them to explore other aspects of Polish culture.
