On 27-29. 11.24, the XXII International Scientific and Technical Conference on Design, Renovation Innovations and Modernizations in the Energy Sector – PIRE 2024 took place in Ustroń. The conference was organized by the Silesian University of Technology together with the Polish Welding Society and the Association for Material Diagnostics.

The conference was attended by representatives of 15 companies, 3 research centers and 6 universities. During this scientific event, 5 plenary sessions and a poster session were organized, during which papers on current problems of the energy sector in Poland and abroad were presented. Among others, papers on the mechanisms of destruction of energy elements, characteristics of materials for work at elevated temperatures, and forecasts for the development of the Polish energy sector were presented. As part of the conference, its participants could publish their articles in the journal "Energetyka". Participants also had the opportunity to listen to a plenary paper on general engineering topics. This year, the conference was opened by a lecture by prof. dr hab. inż. Mariola Saternus on the history of metallurgy, including the "dark side of metals".

The aim of the conference, in addition to the exchange of knowledge and experiences between representatives of science and industry, was also to present the folklore of the Silesian region. During the conference, participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the history of Ustroń, listen to the dialect and Silesian jokes.
