PBL project "Metals in green technologies - an interactive station for identifying these metals and their minerals in augmented reality"
The term "green technologies" refers to the development and use of technologies that minimize the negative impact of human activity on the environment and society. Therefore, it encompasses any environmentally friendly or sustainable technology that aims to reduce the overall impact of human activity on the environment. The use of green technologies can reduce dependence on non-renewable energy, which is linked to global warming and climate change. Its goal is to protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and repair degraded environments. Green technologies are a broad term that encompasses various types of environmental protection through technology, for example, through alternative energy sources that can be harnessed, such as wind, solar, tidal, and geothermal energy. Electric vehicles are one solution for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. However, all of these solutions share a common denominator: the metals required for their production.
The project aimed to develop and implement a modern teaching station to impart knowledge in the field of mineralogy to the extent required for the production and use of metals in green technologies, while also paying particular attention to environmental aspects. In addition to providing students with direct contact with the metal or mineralogical material under discussion, this station will be equipped with modern IT tools that significantly enhance its functionality with augmented reality. The station will take the form of a display case with individual minerals and metals used in green technologies as exhibits. A program will be developed to display data and photos of each mineral and metal. A QR code assigned to the display case will transport students to an augmented reality experience containing comprehensive information about the metal itself and its minerals, its importance from the perspective of green technologies, metal metallurgy, and the possibilities and methods of its technological application.
