Over the last two centuries, a special culture has been developing among the metallurgical community. In addition to respect for hard work, it is characterized by a set of traditions and rituals. Among them, an important role is played by the cult of St. Florian and the ceremonies of the Steelworker's Day celebrated in May, with their main ceremony - the ceremonial admission of young adepts of the "noble work of iron" to the group of metallurgical brothers called "przemiankami". These traditions are also expressed in the everyday life of the metallurgical community, determining its integrity and identity.

The importance and importance of these traditions for the development of national culture in Poland was particularly recognized by the decision of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to include them on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Efforts to enter metallurgical traditions on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage were initiated by the Metallurgical Museum in Chorzów. We are glad that the Silesian University of Technology, as the depositary of these traditions, also plays a part in this success. Together with other centers of science, industry and culture, we have actively participated in this initiative from the very beginning.

Today we can say that we are an important element of our National Culture, which obliges us to continue cultivating and promoting our traditions.
