Breakthrough research grant

Research on a new sorption material obtained from used car catalysts in terms of the circular economy

A breakthrough research grant will be implemented at the Department of Metallurgy and Recycling of the Silesian University of Technology entitled: Research on a new sorption material obtained from used car catalysts in terms of the circular economy.

The topic is related to the priority research area of the Silesian University of Technology: POB6: Climate and environmental protection, modern energy (POB6.3 Circular economy).

The search for new and cheap sorbents used to remove harmful compounds of heavy metals, organic compounds, dyes or pharmaceuticals is an issue widely discussed in the scientific literature. The essence of the problem is the replacement of expensive traditional sorbents with cheap ones, which are produced from waste materials. The research is aimed at determining the sorption potential of the waste raw material from used ceramic carriers of car catalysts and checking the possibility of its use as a material capable of effectively removing metal ions from polluted waters.

The research will be conducted by dr inż. Joannę Willner
oraz dr hab. inż. Agnieszkę Fornalczyk, prof. PŚ
