RULES OF THE THREE MINUTE THESIS® COMPETITION

WHO?
The Three Minute Thesis® Polish your English competition is open to:
- foreign PhD students studying at universities or branches of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the Silesian Voivodeship,
- polish PhD students studying at universities or branches of the Polish Academy of Sciences PAN in the Silesian Voivodeship.
The presentations must be in English.
WHEN?
until April 22 – send us a 3-minute video of your presentation presenting the issues of your doctoral thesis
until April 28 – evaluation of video performances by the jury and selection of 20 people who will perform in the eliminations
May 10 – eliminations (1:00 PM, New Technologies Centre, Konarskiego 22B, Gliwice). During the elimination round, the jury will select 10 finalists.
June 6 – FINAL
HOW?
The 3MT® competition consists of a live presentation in English in front of the audience and the Jury, on the subject of scientific work and its importance for society, lasting 3 minutes.
It is possible to display a single, static slide. No slide transitions, animations or any “displacements” are allowed. The slide must be displayed from the beginning of the speech to its end. Additional electronic media, e.g. audio and video files, or any additional props, e.g. cards, costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment, must not be used.
HOW TO PREPARE A VIDEO FOR PRE-ELMINATION?
- Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through speech (timing does not include the 3MT title slide and commences from when the competitor starts speaking, not the start of the video).
- The 3 minute audio must be continuous – no sound edits or breaks.
- Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs).
- No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted within the video recording.
- The video must contain the title of the speech.
- The video must be filmed from a static position.
- The video must be filmed from one camera angle.
- The video may contain a static slide. It may be visible in the video continuously at the location: top right corner/right side/cut.
