European Brownfield Manager in the field of reclamation and development of industrial areas, specialist in the procedure for assessing the impact of projects on the environment, Chairwoman of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Waste Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice, Director of the College of Individual Inter-area Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Member of the Polish Association of Green Roofs, Polish Botanical Society and the Founding Association of Electroprosumerism, board member of The Regional Expert Centre for Education for Sustainable Development Southern Poland and deputy president of the Human Habitat Association. She studies the physiological response of plants to stress factors in urban-industrial areas. Graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Silesia, specialist in internal medicine. He serves as Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice. Professionally and scientifically, he is interested in lifestyle diseases, especially diabetes and its connections with the development of cancer. In his research, he is looking for new biomarkers as an aid in predicting the response to treatment, he is interested in molecular mechanisms that bind diabetes and cancer, and incretins – new drugs used in the treatment of diabetes. Active popularizer of exact sciences among young people, involved in such projects as: University of High School Students or “University of Young Inventors”. He is particularly close to the combination of medicine and computer science, hence he is trying his hand as an author of books popularizing, among others, programming and use of AVR and ARM microcontrollers.

Dr Joanna Bagniewska is a zoologist and a science communicator. As a departmental lecturer in environmental sciences at Oxford University’s Department for Continuing Education, she splits her time between directing the Postgraduate Certificate in Ecological Survey Techniques and teaching at Oxford’s Graduate School. Her academic interests include conservation biology, behavioural ecology and citizen science. Joanna has worked on a number of species, ranging from wombats and wallabies to mole-rats and jackals; she is also co-running the Oxfordshire Mammal Group. In her spare time, Joanna works as a freelance popular science writer, presenter and communications coach. She is passionate about science communication, having won British Council’s FameLab Poland and the Wellcome-funded “I’m a Scientist, get me out of here!”, given a TEDx talk and performed at science stand-up comedy events. He works on the development of space technologies at Creotech Instruments S.A., serving as Deputy Director for Space Products. He has led research and development projects aimed at designing new space missions and innovative satellite systems.
He has previously worked at University College London and the Open University in the United Kingdom. In Poland, he managed R&D teams at the Copernicus Science Centre and Sollers Consulting. He has advised the European Space Agency as a member of the Education Committee and an expert for the ESA Business Incubation Centre; the Polish Space Agency as a member of the scientific panel; and the European Commission as a member of the expert group on science communication.
He actively shares his experience—as a public speaker, he has delivered over two hundred lectures and workshops, including at Adamed SmartUP, infoShare, TEDx, Women in Tech Summit, and BBC Stargazing Live.
