Section of Preparing and Collecting Data

It is often both the first and the second process. The laboratory usually works with: data from high-density DNA oligonucleotide microarrays, which are subject to background correction, normalization, and summarization processes, among others); data from deep sequencing; proteomic data; and clinical imaging data (computed tomography, magnetic resonance, SPECT, PET).

The laboratory is used for scientific work both by employees of the Silesian University of Technology, as well as by final-year students who prepare data for their master's theses.

The laboratory is equipped with 13 workstations (Samsung NC 241) and a so-called Zero Client Display / Cloud Display , enabling work with virtual operating systems. Connection with the server is possible thanks to PC-OVER-IP technology integrated with the stations. The systems are virtualized using the VMware View environment. Workstations enable work with the resources of both the "Ziemowit" computing cluster, as well as the database cluster in the Section of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
