Biochemical section
Specialist laboratories are equipped with equipment for conducting comprehensive genomic and proteomic research, they have stood for DNA, RNA, plasmids, and protein s isolation, and a set of devices for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the obtained biological materials. Moreover, one of the laboratories is equipped with a complete station for the transformation and cultivation of bacteria. In biochemical laboratories, it is possible to perform electrophoresis of nucleic acids and proteins using any separation parameters.
Tests on both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms allow for simple tests to evaluate the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of various risk factors, including environmental or physicochemical pollutants (X, UV radiation) or biologically active substances (e.g. new chemotherapeutic agents). One of the tests performed in laboratories to assess toxicity in the genetic material of organisms is single-cell electrophoresis (SCGE, i.e. the comet test - Comet Assay) or electrophoresis in an alternating electric field (PFGE; Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis), which allows analyzing the level of damage in DNA.
