June issue of "Ciepłownictwo Ogrzewnictwo Wentylacja" featuring our Department
We are pleased to announce that the latest issue of the monthly journal Ciepłownictwo Ogrzewnictwo Wentylacja (COW) [6/2025] includes several articles authored by members of our Department. The issue was edited by Assoc. Prof. Joanna Ferdyn-Grygierek, DSc, Eng., who is also a co-author of two papers presenting the results of ongoing research conducted at our university.
What can you find in this issue?
Issue 6/2025 features several articles written by the Department's staff:
-
Comparison of Engineering and Simulation Methods in the Seasonal Heat Demand Analysis of Buildings
Authors: Joanna Ferdyn-Grygierek, PhD, Krzysztof Grygierek, PhD, Aleksandra Specjał, PhD
This paper contrasts a simplified engineering approach (Audytor OZC) with dynamic energy simulations (EnergyPlus and CONTAM). Using a residential building as a case study, the authors highlight significant discrepancies in heat-demand estimates and discuss the limitations of simplified methods in the context of retrofit planning. -
Personalized Environmental Control Systems (PECS) for Assessing Occupant Comfort in Smart Buildings
Authors: Mirella Fuhrmann, Aleksandra Lipczyńska, PhD, Joanna Ferdyn-Grygierek, PhD
The article reviews innovative PECS solutions that allow occupants to adjust their immediate environment. Field studies conducted at the Silesian University of Technology are presented, and the authors stress the need to integrate PECS with modern Building Management Systems (BMS). -
Assessment of Environmental Conditions in Bedrooms with Natural Ventilation
Authors: Monika Błaszczok, PhD, Oskar Adamczyk
The authors analyse air-quality parameters and thermal comfort in bedrooms of a naturally ventilated residential building throughout the year. Elevated CO₂ concentrations in winter and overheating in summer are identified, providing valuable insights for designing ventilation systems in dwellings. -
CFD Analysis of Non-Isothermal Ceiling Jets in Air-Conditioning Systems
Author: Maria Hurnik, PhD
This study presents numerical simulations of non-isothermal air jets in occupied spaces. Particular attention is paid to jet detachment from the ceiling, a phenomenon that can cause occupant discomfort — critical knowledge for designing Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems.
📖 We invite you to read the full issue on the journal’s website: https://cieplowent.pl/w-numerze-6-2025
We extend our sincere congratulations to all authors and the issue editor, Assoc. Prof. Joanna Ferdyn-Grygierek, and thank them for their significant contribution to advancing knowledge in modern HVAC systems, indoor-environmental quality, and building energy efficiency.
