MQTT protocol in measurement systems

The growing need for data collection to optimize production processes requires adapting current production lines to new applications. The applied solutions must be adapted to the new measurement technologies. Information exchange must take place in different types of devices, due to age, technology and type of communication. Another aspect is the ease of implementation of the new system in old devices. The solutions used so far must be compatible with the older ones. A large amount of data also requires some aggregation to make this information useful to the end user. This constitutes the substantive foundations of this PBL project. The aim of the project will be to familiarize students with the MQTT protocol as a tool used for communication of distributed measurements. The use of data processing in microprocessor systems using Node-RED as an innovative approach to programming, the use of database systems dedicated to time series on the example of InfluxDB and data visualization (measurements, diagnostics, reports) in the Grafana system. The PBL project will consist of the IT and construction parts. During the implementation of the IT part, students will participate in the process of creating a complete information system. As part of the construction classes, students will build a measurement network. The project involves cooperation between students representing various fields of study under the supervision of tutors representing various scientific disciplines to disseminate knowledge and skills to use information technologies available on the market. The project team will consist of specialists in the field of automation and industrial computer science and students of Mining and Geology and Safety Engineering, which indicates a high level of interdisciplinarity of the proposed topics. The results of the work will bring tangible benefits for students in the form of an increase in their competences and for researchers in the form of effective exchange of experiences in various fields and areas of knowledge.
The aim of the project will be to build a measurement and information system.
