On 26 November 2025, in room 231, Dr Eng. Daria Kałużyńska delivered a scientific lecture entitled “Photonics, optics, optoelectronics vs. cancer research – how can they be combined?” The lecture took place in room 431 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.

The presentation outlined the current state of knowledge on photonic and optical methods used in cancer diagnostics and treatment. This topic is particularly important from the perspective of application-oriented research, as some optical methods employed in diagnostics, detection, and therapy are highly sensitive and specific. Moreover, for certain types of cancer, these methods can be applied in a non-invasive manner (i.e., without the need for surgery, invasive biopsy, or chemotherapy that debilitates the patient’s entire body).

A discussion was also held on the potential of the hardware resources of our Department for conducting this type of research in the future.
