A Brief History of the Department of Optoelectronics

The Department of Optoelectronics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering originated from the Division of Optoelectronics of the Institute of Physics at the Silesian University of Technology.
The founder of the Division—initially named the Division of Acoustoelectronics and Optoelectronics, and later the Division of Optoelectronics—and its first head was Prof. Aleksander Opilski.
In the years 1981–1983, the Division was headed by Dr. Zenon Cerowski. After Dr. Cerowski, until the year 2000, the Division was again led by Prof. Aleksander Opilski.
From 2000 to 2021, the head of the Division, and subsequently of the Department of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (since 2009), was Prof. Tadeusz Pustelny.
Since 2021, the head of the Department has been Dr. habilitated Eng. Erwin Maciak, Professor of the Silesian University of Technology.
