ANNOUNCEMENT
HEAD OF FACULTY OF CHEMISTRY OF SILESIAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
announces the competition for the position of
research assistant (asystent) or assistant professor (adiunkt)
in the Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Polymers at the Faculty of Chemistry
at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Akademicka 2A.
Job description:
- the competition for the position of research assistant ( asystent) or assistant professor (pol. adiunkt) is open to persons who meet the requirements specified in the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2021, item 478, as amended) and the Statute of the Silesian University of Technology of 3 June, 2019 (Legal Monitor of SUT of 2020, item 339 as amended),
- assignment to the position of research assistant ( asystent) or assistant professor (pol. adiunkt) will be subject to fulfilling the formal employment criteria by the successful candidate, as set out in the Statue of the Silesian University of Technology,
- estimated work starting date: 01.09.2025 (flexible),
- workplace and type of contract: Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Polymers, full-time employment,
- period of employment: from 01/09/2025 to 28/02/2026 (6 months, flexible starting date),
- number of vacancies: 1,
- the position is related to a research project financed by the National Science Centre, Poland, No. 2022/45/B/ST4/02689, entitled "Triplet harvesting in the blink of an eye: Hidden luminescence mechanisms beyond spin-orbit coupling in iridium(III) complexes".
Tasks:
- synthesis of ligands and mono- and dinuclear iridium(III) complexes,
- structural characteristics and purity assessment of final products and intermediates using popular techniques like NMR or mass spectrometry,
- preparation of summaries, reports, and descriptions required for preparation of scientific publications,
- transfer of traditional notes into electronic form (photos/scans) or using an electronic laboratory notebook,
- organisational work around the lab, including keeping stocks of solvents and chemical reagents necessary to carry on laboratory work as instructed by the Principal Investigator,
- in case of having sufficient qualification, carrying out basic photophysical studies of the selected complexes.
Requirements:
- having a PhD degree in chemical sciences or a related discipline awarded not earlier than 7 years before the start date or attaining said PhD degree before the start of the employment
- knowledge of laboratory techniques used in chemical synthesis, including working in inert conditions,
- knowledge of principal techniques used for characterisation of chemical substances,
- appropriate attitude to work as a researcher,
- English proficiency in writing and speaking,
- ability to individually plan synthetic pathways,
- ability to plan work on their own and adequate time management.
Additional requirements:
- understanding of basic techniques of photophysical characterisation,
- experience in working with coordination compounds, including transition metal complexes,
- experience of independently working with NMR spectrometers,
- experience in formal or informal supervision of a chemistry laboratory.

- candidates without a PhD should prepare a declaration or confirmation of their viva (defense) date,
- one support letter from an independent PhD researcher,
- declaration that Silesian University of Technology will be the principal employer should they be successful,
