The feelings of the painting’s protagonists are born in defiance of divisions — between different realms that do not allow them to be together. Closeness, instead of offering salvation, becomes a source of pain. Every tear accelerates the process of decay, as if emotions themselves possessed the power to destroy matter. Rust envelops their bodies and their relationship, symbolizing the influence of time, inequality, and prohibitions they are unable to overcome. Love does not disappear suddenly — it deteriorates slowly, until it becomes only a trace of what was once alive.
